Progressive Nonsense
It’s crazy! There are movements in Christianity that remove the authority of scripture. When we do that though, we resign ourselves to the notion that the book of Matthew has no more significance than the Koran, the book of Genesis has no more reality than the book of Mormon, and Isaiah, Psalms, and Romans have the same legitimacy as the pamphlet from the cult down the road. It’s like pulling the engine out of the car and expecting to win the race.
This kind of outlook aligns with post-modern thought that there is no absolute standard of truth, which has slowly bled into Christianity. When we engage in disconnecting ourselves from the source of truth but still want to keep elements that resonate with us like salvation and God’s Love and then toss the rest like His wrath, hatred for sin, and historical narratives that don’t seem nice in our modern culture, all we’re doing is making up a god to suit our desires - which is idolatry. It’s like eating dessert and candy every meal of the day. It tastes really good, but it’ll kill us! At the end of the day, either the Bible is the truth that we live by, or it’s not and we have no real clue about anything. The entirety of the Bible paints a picture of who God is, and it’s not ours to change!
Faithful Christian, do not be discouraged! Lock yourself deeper into His Word. Love as Christ loved. Flee from all that God calls sin. The Word is our covering to come under, not some random preferences to step over, and those here in 2018 who are skeptical are not a new thing. Ecclesiastes tells us that there’s nothing new under the sun. This is all to be expected, and as Christ shows us, the world will continue to hate it more and more as time passes. The more incoherent scripture seems to our culture, the more we must hold tightly to the treasure that it is.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. ... They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.” John 15:18-19 & 21
