We Don’t Have Authority

Horrible and frightening what’s going on with the the fire in Redding, California. Many have been evacuated, and through the hopes that nobody is hurt, I can’t help but reflect on the trouble that comes with training people in that very city to believe that they can take authority over the weather, that God isn’t in control of the earth but that we are, and other types of “me-centric”, “have-and-have-nots”, mystical-miracle, anti-Biblical teaching from men like Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton. When that type of teaching is blatantly shown to be false - like it is right this minute - the people who buy in will first question their own ability to have authoritative faith powers, and then they’ll question God.

Sadly, I’ve seen tweet after tweet after tweet today of people claiming authority over the fire, rebuking the fire, and commanding Jesus to immediately send down rain as if He will that very minute, and talking to the fire as Jesus talked to the storm - all things we aren’t able to do. Now, I pray He does. I hope nobody is hurt, but I don’t have the ability to command God to do anything. I can only ask, and trust His goodness - even when I don’t understand.

The fact is, God is in control. Absolute control. He does whatever He wants. We can ask and humbly make our requests known, but He is under the authority of no one. He is not under our command, we are under His. This life is about submission, not dominion like those at Bethel teach. My prayer after the safety of all those in harms way is that the true God of the Bible will be seen for who He is, and will be worshipped in spirit and in truth from many who today will discover that their human authority didn’t cause anything to happen.
