Debate on the Resurrection

I recently watched a debate between a Christian apologist and an atheist on the resurrection, and something kept popping up that I thought was interesting.

The atheist cited various false teachings a few different times as evidence against the resurrection and Christianity as a whole. He noted that he saw a recent video of a supposed resurrection of a dead man in a church in South Africa, and has no reason to believe that it’s anything other than just for show. ...which, it was just for show. For those of us who are believers dedicated to God’s Word, we know this person posing as a pastor is most likely a prosperity proponent who is faking spectacles for dishonest gain. The Word warns against false teachers over and over again. The exact theology of this particular guy is an assumption based on many other examples of the same exact thing, but we know that a Christian pastor preaches the gospel, he doesn’t raise people from the dead as some sort of public spectacle (or private for that matter).

The thing I’m realizing more and more is that false teaching isn’t just dangerous to those it ensnares, it is seen by those who don’t believe as validation for their unbelief. A fake resurrection undermines the true resurrection. The Bible makes no bones about it, these types of people must be silenced. We should be diligent to mark and call out those who teach falsely not just for the sake of their deceived followers, but for those who hear their words and count the truth as a lie because of them.

“They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach.” Titus 1:11
