Creation? Evolution? Heh?
As a Christian, if the Genesis creation account isn’t seen as history, it’s not science problem, it’s a faith problem.
Even though many have desperately tried very hard to come up with version of an origin that doesn’t involve God, when true, honest, evidence-based study and observation of this world is done, it does not arrive at a disputation of the Genesis account - and in many cases, actually supports it.
Scientists at North Carolina State Univeristy found blood vessels and soft tissue within the bones of dinosaurs that are supposed to be millions of years old. They discovered that under the right conditions, a gorge can be formed in hours, not millions of years like in 1982’s Mount St. Helens eruption. We’ve also seen that stalactites, that are suppose to take millions of years per inch, can grow in a matter of years like in the basement of the Lincoln Memorial.
The truth is, evolutionary theory was developed by a crazy guy who, rumor has it, ended up renouncing it on his death bed. It takes as much, if not more faith to believe it, but since it’s mainstream, and in museums and schools, it’s easy to turn our brains off and assume it’s true. But BOTH ideas require faith. It’s not that one is religious and the other is intellectual, nobody was there in either case, so BOTH ideologies require trusting that somebody else knows what they’re talking about. In this case, it’s either God or man. But why wouldn’t man’s ideas be mainstream? Humans absolutely do not want an all powerful and holy God to hold them accountable. But keep in mind, it’s not “settled science” by any stretch.
Evidence of a global flood is literally everywhere. There are still zero transitional fossils from one kind to another. The missing link is still totally SUPER missing, to the point where they’ve stopped using that language to describe it. Science does not dispute creation, and in fact, the evidence only serves to support the truth of scripture. Trusting the Bible is not the anti-intellectual position, it’s FULL of incredible scientific discovery.
Did God use evolution as a means of creation? Well, if you believe the words of Jesus, He affirmed a beginning where God made us male and female, not a gradual evolution (Mark 10).
Ultimately, at some point, we have to embrace the idea that trusting the Bible is now an alternative life style. We will be disliked. We will be mocked. We will be made fun of. We will be passed over for jobs or political office because of it. It’s not going to ever square with culture. It WILL get harder - but trust the book. Be a cultural loser for Christ. You absolutely won’t regret it in the long run. But please, I beg you, stop trying to marry the two. Stop trying to figure out what to toss out of the Bible in order to be more comfortable in culture. The idea promises unity, but ultimately delivers death. Be a Christian, and be alternative.
