Was Jesus Perfect?

Was Jesus truly perfect?

This week CNN’s Don Lemon said on national television, “Jesus Christ, if that’s who you believe in, Jesus Christ - admittedly was not perfect when he was here on this earth.” I think he was using Jesus as an illustration to make some kind of political point about how the founding fathers were fallible, but I take great issue with this statement.

It seems he was talking to those who believe in Jesus, seemingly as if we would agree that Jesus was not perfect on earth, however, we know that the facts about the person of Jesus are worst things to be wrong about in all of human history.

Not only was Jesus perfect, His righteousness is the reason His death on the cross is the perfectly acceptable sacrifice for our sin. If He sinned, even once, He would have been a sinner just like us and could not have paid for ours. If Jesus wasn’t perfect, He isn’t God. If He isn’t God, He cannot save. If He cannot save, we are doomed.

But He can save.
He is God.
He was perfect while on earth.
He is crowned in holiness and perfection forever.
The gospel is true, and the most important, beautiful truth in all of existence!

People will ask, “why do bad things happen to good people?” And the answer is, it’s only ever happened once - to Jesus. Here’s just a couple of the many verses we find the perfection of Jesus as clear as day.

Hebrews 4:15 - “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

1 Peter 2:21-22 - “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.”

Today, rest in His righteousness alone.
